Lipid and Blood Pressure Lowering Effects of Mikania micrantha Through En-zymatic Inhibition

Mikania micrantha Kunth (Asteraceae) is a plant traditionally used to reduce the risk of hyperlipidemia and hypertension. There limited information on anti-hyperlipidemic anti-hypertensive effects various M. leaves stem extracts. This study aimed examine in vitro potential different parts (leaves stem) extracts inhibiting hyperlipidemia-related enzymes, i.e., pancreatic lipase (PL), lipoprotein (LPL) 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase (HMGR), addition hypertension-related, angiotensin-I converting enzyme (ACE). spectrophotometrically determined inhibitory activities hot water, cold 70% ethanol, ethyl acetate against above-said enzymes using PL, LPL, HMGR, ACE inhibition assays. The found that ethanol (ETS) extract exhibited highest PL activity (IC50=4.49±2.50 μg/mL), albeit difference was insignificant (p > 0.05) compared orlistat (IC50=0.31±0.01 μg/mL). Meanwhile, (ETL) yielded LPL (IC50=1.42±0.48 μg/mL) HMGR (50.12±3.44%), although greatest observed for water (HWS) (97.47±1.19%). However, result other captopril (98.42±0.93%). In brief, generally remarkable ACE, thus conveying extracts' potentials.
